Helping People Feel Better, Move Better & Stay Active

The Hive Health & Well-Being Centre in Bideford brings pain and injury treatment, rehabilitation and fitness together in one friendly, supportive place.

Our goal is simple: to help people across North Devon overcome the things that are holding them back and build the strength and confidence to keep doing the things they enjoy.

Helping people live well and stay pain-free.

More Than Treatment. More Than a Gym.

We created The Hive because we believe feeling better shouldn’t end when treatment finishes.

If you’re in pain, we can help you take the first steps towards feeling and moving better. If you’re recovering from an injury, we can support you through rehabilitation. And when you’re ready to become stronger and fitter, you can continue that journey with us.

It means you don’t have to keep starting again with someone new as your needs change.

Treatment. Rehabilitation. Strength. Fitness. All under one roof.

Who We Help

There isn’t a typical Hive client.

People come to us with different goals, different abilities and at very different stages of their journey.

You might be struggling with pain or an injury. You might want to get back to exercise but aren’t confident about where to start. Or you may simply want to become fitter and stronger somewhere that doesn’t feel like an intimidating conventional gym.

Whatever brings you through the door, you’ll find a friendly team and a supportive community where people encourage one another rather than compete with each other.

It’s an approach that has helped plenty of self-confessed “non-gym people” discover that looking after their health and fitness can actually be something they enjoy.

The Story Behind The Hive

I’ve known since I was 17 that I wanted to work in health and fitness.

A work experience placement gave me my first real taste of what it meant to help someone feel better in their body, and I was hooked. I went on to complete my degree in the field, with my dissertation later published in the Journal of Athletic Enhancement in 2014.

I loved training, but it didn’t take long for me to realise that helping people “just get fit” wasn’t the part that interested me most.

I was drawn to the more complicated problems – pain, injuries, movement difficulties and the people who felt they’d tried everything but still weren’t getting lasting results.

It Became Personal Too

My interest in pain and rehabilitation hasn’t only come from studying it.

I’ve played rugby and sport for years and collected more injuries than I’d like to admit along the way – from sprains and nerve pain to migraines and even a broken coccyx.

So I understand how frustrating it can be when your body stops you doing the things you want to do.

But one experience in particular changed the direction I wanted to take. My mum had lived with severe back pain for eight years.

Helping her through rehabilitation and seeing her regain the freedom that pain had taken away made a huge impression on me.

It pushed me further into soft tissue therapy and exercise rehabilitation because I wanted to understand how we could help people not only feel better, but give them the support to stay better.

Why I Created The Hive

In 2015, I started working in spinal rehabilitation before going on to work across several practices in North Devon. I learned a huge amount, but I also began seeing the same pattern repeatedly. Someone would be in pain. They’d receive treatment. They’d feel better. Then 6, 9, 12 or 18 months later, they’d be back with the same problem.

It wasn’t necessarily because their original treatment hadn’t worked. Often, what was missing was what happened afterwards. No structured rehabilitation. No gradual strength building. No long-term support. And where rehabilitation was available, it could sometimes feel like a short programme with a definite finish line:

“Right, you’re done now. Off you go.”

But real life doesn’t work like that. People’s bodies, circumstances and goals change. They might need treatment today, rehabilitation next month and support to become stronger and fitter after that.

That gap between treatment and long-term health is why I created The Hive.

One Place for the Whole Journey

I wanted The Hive to be somewhere people could come at any stage.

Feel Better

If pain, injury or stiffness is stopping you doing what you enjoy, our Pain & Injury Treatment gives you somewhere to start.

Move Better

As things improve, Exercise & Injury Rehabilitation can help you rebuild movement, strength and confidence.

Get Stronger

When you’re ready, Personal Training & Fitness gives you the support to continue progressing and make regular exercise part of your life.

You don’t have to move through every stage, and everyone’s journey will be different.

The important thing is that the support is here when you need it.

What Our Customers Say

Exercise and Injury Rehab Bideford, North Devon

Built for Long-Term Results

Everything we do at The Hive comes back to helping people make progress they can maintain.

Our exercise sessions aren’t about pushing you as hard as possible for a few months and hoping for the best. They’re about training for real life – using appropriate exercise, varied intensity, consistency and gradual progression.

And one of the things I’m proudest of is the community that’s grown around The Hive.

People support one another, encourage each other and notice when someone hasn’t been around.

Because getting better, becoming stronger and staying active is much easier when you don’t feel like you’re doing it alone.

Helping People Live Well and Stay Pain-Free.

That’s what The Hive was created to do, and it’s still what drives everything we do today.

Whether you’re coming to us because something hurts, you’re recovering from an injury or you simply want to become fitter and stronger, we’ll meet you where you are and help you take the next step.
